8 SNEAKY REASONS WHY YOU’RE ALWAYS HUNGRY
It doesn’t matter what you eat or how much you eat, you know you are feeling the need to fuel up even if you’ve just finished a meal. If you can relate to this, we’ll have all the answers to why this happens in the first place. We’ll also, of course suggest ways to deal with it in the right manner.
We’ve made a list of 8 common reasons why some of us are constantly hungry and how we can resist the temptation of feeding our bodies food that we might not necessarily require.
You’re consuming too many refined carbs: If your day is incomplete without a big chocolate doughnut, then you’re continuously filling your body with nutrition-deficit refined carbs. These refined carbs lower the blood sugar levels, which in turn makes your body feel hungry at regular intervals.
You’re deprived of sleep: Proper sleep is necessary for living a healthy life. Not getting enough sleep is associated with a number of physical as well as mental problems. When you don’t get enough sleep, the levels of leptin fall, making you feel hungry and binge eat your favourite unhealthy snack. It also helps regulate ghrelin (appetite-stimulating hormone). Lack of sleep increases the level of ghrelin, making you feel hungry when you are sleep deprived.
You’re stressed all the time: Well, there is nobody in this world who isn’t stressed, some are stressed with their work, some with their education while some are stressed with life in general, but that doesn’t mean we keep on living our lives beneath the constant trap of stress. Not only does this affect our mental well-being, it also has an adverse effect on our bodies as well. Excessive stress increases the level of cortisol in the body--a hormone that promotes hunger and food craving.
You’re not drinking enough water: How many times have we heard that we should drink at least 8 glasses of water daily, but how many times do we actually follow it? Water is important for the functioning of a healthy human body. Water by nature has a more filling capacity and you will be surprised by its power that could limit your calorie intake when consumed just before your meals.
You eat while being distracted: In the fast-paced world that we live in, distracted eating is a very common sight. We’ve become such masters in multi-tasking that we end up eating without actually realising the quantity. When we are distracted, we often lose sight of how much food we are actually consuming and completely ignore the fullness signals that out body releases, resulting in over-eating.
You eat very fast: The rate at which you eat has a direct impact on how hungry you feel. The faster you eat, greater is your appetite and there are chances that you may overeat as compared to people who take time and eat slowly. When you eat slowly and chew thoroughly, your body gets enough time to send the fullness signals to the brain, making you feel full and this can stop you from overeating.
You tend to skip meals: There is a common tendency among people to skip meals on the pretext of losing weight or dieting as some may call it, but this practice is not a healthy one. When you skip meals, your body uses all of the blood glucose stored, thereby spiking up the hunger hormone--ghrelin, which in turn increases appetite. This is exactly why one must never skip meals.
You eat because you’re bored: When you’re bored you tend to make food choices without putting in too much thought and often end up making not-so-smart choices. So, next time you’re bored try doing something else other than stuffing face with those snacks!
